About

My non de plume is "Made in DNA". I'm an American expat living in Japan. It's been almost a decade since I arrived last, but the love-hate affair I have going with this country has lasted nearly twenty years now.

Like most peeps, I enjoy the usual entertainment venues. As for genres I entertain myself with cyberpunk, bizarro, horror (particularly zombie, virus, and Asian strains), sci-fi, noir, dark, and anything unusual.

Though I couldn't draw my way out of a paper bag, I'm a fan of Shirow Masamune, William Gibson, Tsukasa Jun, , and others.

My fiction is a blend of the experiences I've had in Japan and the US. It is heavily influened by any and all media types as well as just the strangeness that exists within my own perceived reality.

In the last two years, several sites have been kind enough to write up completely unsolicited reviews. (Which is strange, because of the sites I have solicited, not a one has taken me up on my offer, or has forgotten, or buried my work under a pile of "more important" work. C'est la vie.) The reviews speak for themselves really. If you are wondering what kind of fiction I write, these sites have some excellent unsolicited reviews, interviews, and notes:

  • Warren Ellis dot com - The link that started it all. After Mr Ellis mentioned my work. I began to pick up readers and coverage - "All right, Mr DeMille, I'm ready for my close up."

  • m1k3y dot com - Grinding.be guru and pirate who gave me my first review after Ellis mentioned me

  • Social Media Trader - Link to my Twitter microfiction included along with other Twitter writers

  • Social Media Trader - Follow-up interview to the previous article on this list

  • Planet Damage - Cyberpunk/science fiction news blogger from Hungry

  • Twitter Stars - Features original story exclusive to the site

Finally, my personal site, The Moped Ronin, is a collection of "news from Japan, my life as an expat here, photo reblogging fun, and insanity in general". I can't promise it's always public-safe, but I try to keep it as clean as possible. Please visit and feel free to leave comment.
